Richard’s Story

The first thing I remember from when I opened my eyes again that day, were the lovely flowers in the centre of my bedside table.  My tired eyes fluttered open to see the bright orange blooms, so tall in their vase and proud to be a part of this special event.  When I inhaled I could smell their heavy scent, beautiful. Young flowers to me have always been a sign of spring, something new and invigorating, a new beginning, despite the fact it was October!  The 14th October 1952, the day that changed the lives of Mervyn and I forever.
